ESSU
慧数(ESSU) was born in Tokyo in 2007. His interest in urban intervention comes from the influence of skateboarding. He began producing black and white stickers following the Japanese tradition of Taoist and Zen imagery next to the calligraphic work. He will soon start working with aerosol. In his figurative work we find pagodas, bamboo plants and lotus flowers attached to kanji strokes which add a poetic abstraction. Their urban actions include a character: UIKO , or "Promising Child" that permeates the concept of wisdom to the streets and present in the real world other invisible worlds related to Japanese religiosity. In his work we found a perfect combination of Zen meditation with the most avant-garde Japanese aesthetics.
